Job Summary

The role of Transition Manager is to oversee the successful transition of the Avis Budget Data Center to the outsourcing partner's data center and to function as the interface between the outsourcing partner and Avis Budget data center operations team. The Transition Manager will lead the multi-disciplinary team who will work with the outsourcing partner to plan and execute the transition of work. The Transition Manager will work closely with representatives from the third party provider and with internal business partners/process owners to devise a consistent transition management approach and ensure the efficient migration of systems to the outsourcing partner data center.

The process of transitioning the services can be complex, detailed, and emotional, and needs special handling to be successful. The Transition Manager should have working knowledge of the areas being transitioned, work with the Supplier in the development of the Transition Plan, and will work closely with the Supplier to develop and amend the Transition Plan prior and during implementation. When processes are migrated, there are often significant changes that must take place in the business processes in order to meet Supplier requirements, and to assure that the contract produces the expected value.

These roles will report to the Vice President of Data Center Operations. This role is a temporary position lasting through the transition which is currently scheduled to start on July 15, 2008 and completing around June 2009.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Accountable for the successful completion of project team deliverables on time, within budget, and according to specifications
• Review and assist Supplier with development and execution of the Transition Plan
• Assist business units and Supplier in understanding the business impact of any migration outages
• Identify Client resources required for execution of plan
• Coordinate business unit acceptance testing
• Communicate status of transition to IT leadership and business units
• Develop contingency and risk mitigation plans for transition
• Develop early termination / back-out strategies
• Identify and secure Client resources necessary to execute the Transition Plan.
• Manage Asset and Infrastructure turnover to the Supplier if indicated
• Provides oversight to processes which have been migrated to ensure they are hitting service and savings targets
• Ensure that all business transformations that are required for the success of the project are identified and built into the transition plan
• Work with internal business stakeholders to design a meaningful process to work with the supplier; assure that the business stakeholders accept and endorse the process
• Communicate effectively with the internal business stakeholders what all changes in processes will be
• Assist in communications to external stakeholders and Third Parties when processes will change, and assure that the new process makes sense
• Assure that business services improve in the new relationship over the previous processes
• Develops, deploys and refines a standardized transition methodology to be used consistently across initiatives
• Leverages the knowledge and creativity of colleagues and helps facilitate best practice sharing across LOB's and process owners


Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage the overall relationship with IBM. Staff and provide leadership to the Avis Budget Group outsource governance team. Conducts annual performance appraisals for direct reports, recommends salary increases, provides individual feedback to improve performance, and initiates corrective action in response to personnel problems. Oversee the development of employees so as to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the organization's standards.


Qualifications (may vary by level)


Required Experience

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 15 years relevant IT work experience.
• Minimum of 10 years IT management experience.
• Previous people and financial management experience required.
• Previous contract or outsourcing management experience required.
• Previous data center migration or transition experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of business environment, requirements and corporate culture
• Knowledge of business processes that will touch Supplier
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in managing multiple large scale projects
• Demonstrated success at leading high performing project teams and working as part of a matrix organization
• Exceptional problem solving capabilities and use of judgment
• Ability to work effectively in a distributed work environment/self starter
• Ability and willingness to travel
• Functional knowledge of technical areas is a plus


Travel Requirements

Moderate to heavy travel between New Jersey & Colorado may be required.
