Our Client is a Web Start-up who sorts the world's information by network. They are early in development and seeking a Director of User Interface Design who is obsessed with internet technology and social media. Our ideal candidate thrives in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment, works very well within a team, is self-motivated, has a high level of energy and a strong drive to succeed. He/she must have a passion for the internet and be current with cutting edge web trends and technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
• Architectural and graphical design, navigation, development and usability of customer-facing features and applications of Web 2.0 platform
• Manage in-house design and production team
• Manage all aspects of web experience development
• Develop and execute strategies to optimize traffic, revenue and profitability across several domestic and international branded sites
• Develop and execute an online customer acquisition and retention strategy
• Conduct and leverage consumer research and data mining results to target changes to drive conversion improvements
• Product development lifecycle (research, defining requirements and post launch analysis) to improve the online experience (search, browse and custom framing).
• Develop an understanding of the needs of internal and external customers, the business, and the competitive landscape. Translate this understanding into a vision, strategic plan and user experience
• Partner with product management to define product strategy, product definition, and user experience design, graphical design and navigation
• Lead the creation and execution of the user experience and site architecture, taking a consumer and customer centric view to improve the user experience, and build the brand
• Establish, optimize and manage user experience management methodologies, incorporating industry standard best practices and lessons learned
• Understand operational business strategies and marketing goals and objectives behind design and be able to articulate that to stakeholders, product owners, technical development, and the user experience staff
• Direct and controls the activities of the information / interface design function
Requirements
• Proven background in product management and user experience related activities in a leading consumer internet company
• Visionary Leader and Consensus-Builder. Someone who is able to identify, communicate and inspire an organization around the next generation of user experience and product offerings to dramatically grow the business
• Minimum five years of senior level product management experience, as well as credible UE skills, built at a consumer internet company
• Results-Oriented, Hands-On and Decisive. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Deep desire for success -always keeps his or her eye on results and stays close to tactics. Leads by example and has a strong sense of urgency. Willing to take calculated risks, and has the confidence and conviction to "put it on the line."
• Ability to influence and inspire through vision, the power of persuasive reasoning, conceptual thinking, analytical thinking, reference to facts/best practices, effective partnering, and well-developed verbal, written and quantitative skills
• BA or equivalent is required; MBA, Human Computer Interaction or Advanced IT Degree is a plus
• Thorough understanding of best practices in web design and user interface/information architecture conventions
• Significant website/content development and on-line product management experience preferred
• Strong computer skills, some programming experience preferred
• Proven experience developing and executing successful marketing programs/initiatives that support and drive business strategy
• Strong technical understanding of internet technologies and the operations of a commercial web site
