Software Development Engineer Test II

Overview:
A software engineer in test (SDET) is an individual who is responsible for ensuring that the quality of a specific feature, product, or functional area is top-notch. They will do so using all the powers at their disposal - white-box testing, automation, grey-box testing, and manual testing. They will work closely with other testers, SDETs, and technical leaders to ensure tha test coverage is sufficient in scope, maintainable, and runnable.
An SDET level two makes up the bulk of the testing capabilities within the Test organization - both immediate and in automating that testing for further use. An SDET2 should have the ability to provide advice and mentoring to junior engineers, collaborate closely with peers, and take direction from senior engineers. An SDET2 should be able to work in a fairly autonomous fashion. He/She is expected to be a self starter who seeks to improve weak areas of the product through innovating new automated test coverage, and constantly improving existing coverage.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Primary focus on creating automated test coverage
• Secondary focus on providing manual test coverage, as required
• Participates in code review process
• Influences the design of new automation, and the improvement of existing automation
• Uses internal test harness (Test Manager) to write and exercise automation
• Uses internal test case repository (Quality Center) to house automated test cases and record results
• Develops tests in order of priority
• Drives and owns the continual improvement of automated test coverage
• Drives and owns functional testing per project, and independent of specific projects
• Drives and owns defining tests and test plans
• Responsible for running tests during the feature testing cycle
• Contributes to the creation of project schedules.
• Ownership of escalations, as required.
• Ownership of bugs reported by the individual
• Ownership of the bugs in the 'team buckets,' as required
Related Business/Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise:
• Experience developing software in UNIX and Windows environments
• Familiarity with UNIX, bash/zsh scripting
• General understanding of software/hardware development processes and techniques
• Basic networking skills
• Usually possesses domain expertise applicable to storage systems
Supervision Given/Received:
• Works under the direction of the relevant technical leads
• Follows specific, detailed instructions and/or standard practices and policies
• Consults with senior engineers as necessary
• Mentors junior engineers
• Leads small projects
Accountability:
• Consistently meets assigned project deliverables on time.
• Escalates critical issues in a timely fashion.
• Expected to own and maintain code until EOL
• Expected to initiate frequent communication with development, and other members of the team, as needed

Education and Experience:
• BSEE/CS or equivalent
• 3-4 years of related experience
