POSITION TITLE: UNIX Solaris Administrator
REPORTS TO: Director, Technology Services
LOCATION: Scarborough
DURATION: Contract OR Permanent
POSITION PURPOSE:
Our client has an immediate need for a UNIX Solaris Administrator, for their Scarborough office. The purpose of this position is to implement, support and secure the infrastructure systems (Sun/Solaris Infrastructure, Netapp, SAN/NAS, and Enterprise Backup Infrastructure).
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Establishing and maintaining system/data security standards and procedures.
- Leading technical support to the operations team in their maintenance, upgrading and troubleshooting activities.
- Identifying, implementing and reporting system optimization.
- Establishing methods and procedures for planning system growth and capacity assessment.
- Providing expert technical consultation in the planning, evaluation, and installation of the technology infrastructure. Conducting feasibility studies of new technology and defining and documenting system requirements.
- Ensuring consistent documentation of all Infrastructure Systems and procedures.
- Developing tools (scripts/programs) for system maintenance/monitoring activities and automation.
- Assisting project managers to create project plans, project roles and responsibilities, tracking and reporting project status. Communicating delays and issues.
- Providing input and recommendations to Director, Technology Services for strategic planning and budgeting process.
- Maintaining communication with Technology Group regarding current and future technology plans, design integration and direction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A college degree in Computer Science or related field.
- A minimum of 4-years hands-on experience as a UNIX System Administrator (Solaris preferred).
- Experience with Sun midrange hardware (e.g. Sun Fire 3800, Sun Fire E2900) and Netapp SAN/NAS filers.
- Experience administering an Enterprise Backup Infrastructure supporting mixed clients (Legato/EMC Networker preferred).
- The ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Shell, Perl or equivalent).
- The ability to effectively troubleshoot infrastructure issues and prioritize and execute tasks in a high-energy environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to give attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to communicate effectively with management, technical leads, customers and project managers.
- Working knowledge of DNS/Bind, SNMP, SMTP/Sendmail, FTP, SSH, NIS, Samba, iSCSI, NFS.
- Knowledge of MSOffice/Project, EXCEED, and Big Brother.
