JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop advanced motor and drive systems for a variety of vehicle and station applications.
• Develop a variety of machine designs and associated control power systems from early stages of design through final testing and manufacturing support.
• Work with systems engineers to establish electrical and mechanical requirements.
• Perform trade spare performance specifications.
• Orchestrate design reviews.
• Work with thermal and mechanical analysts to verify motor designs.
• Work with designers to prepare fabrication & assembly drawings.
• Provide technical support to specialty subcontractors.
• Establish test requirements and support integration and test of systems.
• The experimental development of motor and drive system management techniques.
• Investigating and documenting failure mechanisms including intentional destruction.
• Using modern computer data acquisition and control, management techniques will be developed to maintain the life and performance of the drive system.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND:
• Candidate must be familiar with modern control theory employing both analog and digital components and must be well versed in both ac and dc motors.
• Familiarity with computer analysis tools such as Matlab and the ability to write C++ code and embedded software is desirable.
• Experience with electric drive systems is considered a plus.
• Will involve design, analysis, component evaluation and selection, and lab/field testing of engineering units.
• Candidate must be able to work independently and must have strong communication skills.
• Proven track record of developing advanced motors and low cost design approach.
• 10+ years of experience in design and testing of electromechanical systems, a minimum of BSEE or BSME, but MSEE or MSME is desired.
