The Environment
The Dominion has a multi-faceted integrated systems environment comprised of Java-based web applications, legacy mainframe systems, end-user client computing, and a business intelligence environment. The web applications run in a WebSphere/Oracle environment on our AIX platform and are developed in Java following J2EE standards. The legacy systems run in a CICS/COBOL environment on our z/OS mainframe.
We have an established Enterprise Architecture that is used to guide updates and improvements to the application and infrastructure portfolios. We use a Software Development Lifecycle Methodology, a Project Management Methodology, and employ standards in executing the projects. Clarity and Open Workbench are used to assist in planning and monitoring our project portfolios.
The Position
As a Senior Business Systems Analyst you lead by example! You enjoy being part of a company large enough for career opportunities, yet small enough to provide a sense of belonging and give you the chance to make a difference. We need an experienced Business Analyst to take a leading role in the analysis of existing business processes and systems and in the identification of process issues and improvements. You will be responsible for capturing requirements for new systems and/or in support of the acquisition of products available in the marketplace. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of Business Analysis methodology and adoption of industry practices. You will be responsible for identifying and documenting Use Cases, Use Case Models, Business Models, Business Rules and Supplementary Requirements. You will also be responsible for managing Requirements artifacts throughout the project life cycle and ensuring the quality assurance of the delivered product to requirement specifications.
Responsibilities
· Investigates and analyzes problems and business requirements, including impact analysis of change on all systems and business areas, for projects up to high complexity in order to recommend appropriate solutions.
· Determines scope and prepares detailed requirements documents for tasks and projects up to high complexity to ensure scope and business requirements are understood and acceptable to all impacted areas.
· Tests delivered systems solutions and monitors systems after implementation to ensure they satisfy requirements.
· Provides direction to internal and external users and assists in the effective and efficient resolution of issues.
· Identifies opportunities for Application Services to ensure high quality in all deliverables and continuous improvement in application development.
· Provides mentoring to support analysts and business analysts in order to help them progress in their professional development and optimize performance.
Requirements
· Minimum - five years progressive experience in Information Services.
· Minimum - four years experience performing business analysis.
· Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
· Good communication skills oral and written.
· A flexible and adaptable team player that is service oriented.
· Knowledge of the Rational Unified Process.
· Demonstrated ability in written Use Cases.
· Knowledge of UML with a demonstrated ability in Use Case modeling. Preference for candidates who have experience using Rational Rose.
· Demonstrated ability in analysis (JAD, interviewing).
· Demonstrated ability in user interface requirements and design.
· Demonstrated ability in testing & documentation techniques.
· The ability to plan and organize effectively.
· Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
· Knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry, and in particular of the Underwriting side of the business, is desired.
Applicants that do not have enough experience to qualify for a Senior Business Systems Analyst position will be considered for a Business Systems Analyst role as long as they have significant experience working with UML techniques and the Rational Unified Process.
Education
· Minimum - two year college diploma in business/computer related field or equivalent experience.
