The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is housed at the University of Wisconsin with collaborators at Michigan State University along with other academic, private sector, and national laboratories. The GLBRC is one of three Department of Energy centers to conduct fundamental, genomics-based research on microbial and plant systems required to realize the national need for low-cost biofuels.
The successful candidate will be part of an integrated Informatics and IT team supporting the research objectives of the Center in scientific and business computing, and computational infrastructure. Will work with the scientific/software development teams to implement solutions for managing and optimizing large-scale storage of scientific data in industrial-strength LIMS implementations (both commercial and custom-built) and relational databases. Will work with scientists to contribute to defining research processes and computational modeling of laboratory operations, and translate them into workflows and software solutions for sample tracking and data collection. Will work with programmers and database administrators to develop database representations of scientific information. Will develop quality controls to assure integrity of the stored laboratory data.
Requires: several years experience in developing LIMS and custom applications for storage of scientific information, expertise in commercial or custom-built LIMS software, solid understanding of relational database technologies, expertise in automation of data processing using scripting languages.
