Essential Functions:
• Recommend, install, configure, maintain, and upgrade all computer and networking software and hardware for OpCo use.
• Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot file, email, and authentication servers, as well as Internet access and other networked services.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot satellite communications gear on survey vessels.
• Perform all aspects of survey kit preparation and mobilization of IT gear -- computers, network, and communications.
• Directly assist users with hardware, and connectivity issues.
• When feasible, assist users with software operation. Help with troubleshooting issues and identify external resources as appropriate.
• Ensure that license agreements are followed, and maintain license server configurations.
• Monitor network and systems for performance, security, and other issues.
• Perform routine server and network tasks, including regular, scheduled tape backups.
• Propose, implement, and document IT standards and procedures.
• Explain and document technical topics for other IT team members as well as users
• In the course of fieldwork, provide full range of IT department responsibilities for shipboard network and systems, including any hardware, software, or system administration tasks that are feasible and necessary for the success of the survey operation.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
• BA, B.Sc. in a technical field
• Two years professional IT work experience
• Experience in configuring and supporting Microsoft Windows 2003, Server Exchange 2007, and Windows XP
• Remote access and satcomm experience
Desirable Requirements:
• An academic or career familiarity with one or more of the following: Visualization, GIS, Cartography, and/or sonar
• Service support using ITIL
Job Conditions:
• Predominately normal office working conditions
• Physical requirements for mobilizing and demobilizing a vessel can be strenuous. Must be able to safely lift 80 lbs to tabletop height
• International travel, often to remote locations -- need to be ship savvy
• Job may require hours exceeding 8 hours per day, and/or 40 hours per week
