POSITION TITLE: Manager, Applications Development
LOCATION: Toronto
DURATION: Full-Time, Permanent
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The position's overarching role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational information systems and software applications.
This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide the development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise, including testing and problem identification and resolution.
- Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals and fulfill end-user requirements.
- Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application software.
- Collaborate with developers and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
- Liaise with Technical Services and Director to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
- Provide technical leadership to consultants, programmers and system users working on development project teams.
- Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
- Prepare, establish, and monitor budgets in collaboration with the Director of I.T.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, and/or 10 years equivalent work experience.
- Certifications in VB.NET, SQL, Crystal.
- 5 years direct experience in software development and/or programming design and systems management.
- Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions.
- Direct, hands-on experience with staff and project management, including problem identification and resolution.
- Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
- Extensive experience with core software applications, including financial and association management systems.
- Technically fluent in programming languages, including VB.NET, Transact- SQL.
- Knowledge of database design and file management techniques.
- Working knowledge of Great Plains Financials and Microsoft FRx.
- Good knowledge and understanding of web based technologies and applications.
- Experience working with Progress and UNIX would be an asset.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Ability to work effectively in a consensus-based and collaborative environment.
