Jaxer JavaScript Architect
About us:
Aptana is about cutting-edge infrastructure for modern, Ajax-based web applications. We already have the leading Ajax IDE in the market (over 1.5M downloads)... . We've recently launched the world's first true Ajax server, Jaxer, and it's getting strong traction. And now we're building out a third product that will take our goal of "End to End Ajax" even further. By the way, our company was founded by Paul Colton, who built JRun, the first (and wildly successful) Java servlet and JSP server; and Nico Nierenberg, the founder and chairman of Actuate. And we're well funded by Accel Partners.
What we are looking for:
• An accomplished engineer that has led the development of substantial product that has already made an impact -- or at least should have
• A JavaScript wizard who eats, drinks, and breathes JavaScript and dynamic web apps
• A JavaScript wizard for whom Jaxer is the Holy Grail (or at least could be, if only he/she were on it...)
• Someone that insists on keeping their hands dirty and building cool stuff
• Someone who believes that they (and a small team) can build *anything*
• An out-of-the-box creative thinker
• Someone with a track record of solving complicated problems with simple, elegant solutions
The Opportunity:
• Design and build a revolutionary application development framework that will allow people to get more done by writing less code
• Build technology that will be rapidly exposed to our massive current customer base
• Craft JavaScript architectures that interact with existing client-side Ajax libraries and with server-side technologies and frameworks
• Potentially influence the future of JavaScript
Responsibilities:
• Hack *a lot* of Javascript. Go with the flow of the language. If you don't love to code and want to write code, please don't apply
• Build the product. Make it happen
• Create designs that are efficient, fault tolerant, and scalable
• Avoid overbuilding
• Participate in discussions about the future direction of JavaScript
• Mentor other engineers
• Defend your own ideas and pick away at other people's
• Be wrong every now and then
Desired Qualifications:
• You have at least 8 years of experience building products (writing code)
• You've spent a lot of time hacking JavaScript in a web environment and enjoy it
• You are fired up about what's going on in Ajax and just *know* it can be done better, and want to do something about it
• You are familiar with some existing server-side web frameworks for application development (Ruby and Rails, Java and Spring, PHP)
• You are familiar with server-side design paradigms (session management, security, REST, persistence, lifecycles, etc.)
• You've built cool re-usable technology that other engineers love and use every day (Development Frameworks and or libraries, IDEs, servers, etc).
