Our closely partnered software client is currently seeking 3-5 talented software engineers (recent grads through senior-level) to add to their small core development team in Downtown Boston. The Bivium Group works directly with the Director of Software and recently placed a 2nd software engineer here. The 1st engineer left a major Wall Street firm and relocated from NY city to join this company.
Company builds a quantitative research platform that includes state of the art financial engineering tools, which are currently being used by several of the largest and most sophisticated investment/quantitative fund managers around the world. These tools are used to identify, test, and implement trading strategies while measuring and controlling risk in the process. Funded by a top-tier venture capital firm and lead by an experienced executive team + highly talented group of software engineers and quantitative research scientists. Company just experienced their second consecutive quarter for record sales and are on track to triple last year's revenue.
Platform is a high performance, distributed client/server application built in Java with some C/C++ on Windows. Platform includes a 'computing node' application for intensive data crunching and sorting.
GUI is a very rich and powerful thick-client built in Java/Swing that offers lots of advanced features to the user. MySQL and 'Time Series' for backend databases - - new development will include cross-platform support for Linux and Unix. "knowledge of Linux/Unix is a big plus. Any relational database (Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL) experience is fine."
Lots of very interesting fundamental computer science problems to solve. New sw engs coming in will focus *exclusively* on designing and developing NEW products and features, which will include the addition of a new Web layer they intend to add to their product offering. "Majority of the work will be in Java, but the candidate must absolutely know and understand C or C++."
Potential exposure to the finance industry is tremendous, and the depth of which is truly up to the individual. Users of this software platform and financial engineering tools are literally some of the biggest names in trading in the World. Newly hired Software Engineers will have an opportunity to learn by osmosis from some of the greatest minds in finance, if interested. Company also offers tuition assistance (almost 100%) for those interested in becoming a CFA - again, only if the candidate desired. If not, that's ok too, because there are plenty of hard core computer science problems to tackle
Compensation: Salary is highly competitive and negotiable, also includes cash bonus + stock options.
