We are seeking a creative and highly motivated Technical Architect to join the Thomson Elite Business Intelligence Product Development team. This person will act as the technical lead in the design and development of Thomson Elite's growing suite of BI solutions. The position reports to the Manager of BI Product Development.
Thomson Elite's BI team is responsible for creating cutting edge analytics and reporting solutions that take data both from Elite's industry-leading ERP systems and from third-party systems, and transform that data into actionable information used across all levels of our client organizations.
This is an exciting time on the BI team, which is seeing growth in size as well as rapidly increasing market opportunity. The ideal candidate will be an expert in the latest BI technologies and best practices, and will have a strong desire to lead the technical direction for a wide range of business intelligence solutions, including but not limited to warehouses, cubes, dashboards, visualizations, and reports.
Primary Responsibilities:
•Manage the technical design and development of BI applications throughout the entire lifecycle of multiple BI projects
•Assume technical architecture responsibilities across all aspects of BI solutions development, from data retrieval and analysis to the eventual communication and reporting of that information
•Lead the technical architecture and design for several different solutions in such a way that they can be sold either individually or as a suite of BI products
•Collaborate with technical leadership from other development areas
•Participate in product requirements definition process to provide feedback on technical feasibility and options
•Consult with other business units and development teams
•Understand latest BI best practices as well as various vendors' technologies
•Lead troubleshooting efforts for the resolution of complex technical application issues with the appropriate technical resources
•Review application modification requests and assess the effects of such modifications to the application
•Generate innovative approaches and solutions to technology project challenges
•Mentor other developers. Provide feedback on the development efforts of other developers
•Manage multiple priorities effectively
Minimum Qualifications:
•BA or BS in Management Information Systems or a related field
•7+ years of experience in a technology environment
•4+ years of technical project leadership experience and architecture experience
•2 plus years experience with business intelligence technologies such as Business Objects 6.5/XIr2, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Analysis Services, SQL Server 2000/2005
•Demonstrated knowledge of business intelligence best practices, including but not limited to: Warehouse/datamart/cube design; Universe/business layer design; End-user report/visualization design and creation
•Experience with both relational and OLAP databases
•Experience with standard Microsoft development technologies such as .NET
•Experience with web technologies such as IIS, JavaScript, HTML, AJAX, CSS
•Experience with XML technologies such as XML, XSLT, Web Services
•Experience with object oriented analysis and design
•Ability to contribute both through technical designs and actual product coding
•Ability to adjust and set work priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
•Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
•Ability to work effectively in a professional manner with technology staff
•Ability to work independently. Self-motivated with ability to drive projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with newer Business objects technologies such as Xcelsius, Voyager, Live Office
•Experience with portal technologies such as Microsoft SharePoint
