TP Systems Ltd. is a technology consulting firm, providing business solutions to both the private and public sector for over 30 years.
Our client is seeking a Software Development Manager to work out of Vancouver.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Lead/Coordinator on large and medium sized projects; monitoring of progress on small projects.
Performs a project leader role for a bundled number of support and/or enhancement requests
Responsible (in part if not in whole) for the development of the project scope and the plans for new projects or major enhancements to existing systems.
Creating, maintaining and contributing to the IS standards. Make suggestions to improve or revise standards as required.
When system design impacts the IS technical strategy conduct design walk-through with other IS staff .
Reviewing work of Programmer Analysts in technical walk-through sessions and making suggestions as to more efficient ways of completing tasks.
Providing technical guidance to Programmer Analysts by participating in training and staff development.
Contributes to evaluations of new technologies, software packages and proposed plans. This includes assessing cost/benefit and feasibility studies.
Conducting departmental supervisory responsibilities, which includes dealing with staffing issues, recruiting, performance reviews, making recommendation to IS management for promotion, transfers and terminations,
Advise management when additional resources are required or when resources are under-utilized, making recommendations for solutions.
Create project control documents relevant to project management.
Actively involved in designing program modules.
Reviewing programming specifications, assisting in the development of programming specifications and developing estimates.
Defining functions, interfaces and layouts of applicable program modules.
Analyzing programs to help determine cost and feasibility of proposed system enhancements.
Determining the physical resources required for applications supported.
Defining and documenting user requirements.
Analyzing systems to ensure that they remain at optimum efficiency and that changes are made where appropriate.
Coordinating of Systems Helpdesk Requests and Monthly Work Plans
Keeps informed of production issues and assigns resources and monitors progress for production problems and urgent/active work request items.
Write and test computer programs and/or modules and/or scripts in a support or system enhancement role in either a mainframe and/or client server and/or web environment in accordance with IS standards and guidelines.
Preparing test environment and test data, and conducting tests on programs and/or modules.
Skills and Experience
15 - 17 years of computer programming experience in a client server, mainframe or web environment of which 5 minimum of 7- 10 years in analyst capacity.
Ability to prioritize and complete several concurrent tasks to meet changing deadlines, priorities, and requirements.
Ability to direct and provide guidance to a work group in order to accomplish scheduled tasks.
Ability to manage up to 12 direct reports
Ability to clearly and concisely prepare and communicate information both verbally and in writing with co-workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peer and users.
Ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems through gathering and analyzing - available information.
