Accountabilities
The Unix System's Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity and efficient operation of our client's production IT infrastructure by providing hands-on pro-active Unix server administration. In the event of a disruption this role is responsible for the restoration of services and minimizing downtime. The role provides technical support to our client's production enterprise to ensure adherence to service levels and KPI's.
• Plans, deploys, configures and maintains server hardware, peripherals, operating systems, applications and enhancements in the production environment in accordance with the change management process.
• Develop and maintain standards and tools to support the production environment.
• Ensures the stable operation, availability, reliability and service ability of production environment.
• Assures minimum downtime and optimal performance through proactive planning, tuning, troubleshooting, forensics and monitoring.
• Analyze and provide timely resolution to end user incidents and connectivity issues while adhering to business aligned service level objectives.
• Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging existing technologies.
• Collaborate with other teams to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Perform audits, backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the policies, procedures and other activities for the systems, administration, usage and disaster recovery.
• Assist architecture to define and select emerging products, services, protocols, and standards and pest practices in support of the production environment.
• Follow all established company policies, procedures and best practices with respect to the production environment.
• Provide after hours support for the resolution for production incidents.
• Monitor systems and network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
• Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near and long-term capacity needs.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, processes procedures and service records.
• Monitor and test system performance and provide statistics and reports.
Requirements
• Post secondary college diploma or university degree in the field of computer science degree or a combination of related experience and education
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in an high availability production enterprise networked environment including FreeBSD or Solaris
• Exposure to Veritas and Oracle
• Working knowledge of WebLogic, including server management and troubleshooting
• Exposure to tuning techniques for WebLogic
• Solid in-depth understanding of DNS, WINS and TCP/IP
• Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, operating, tuning and troubleshooting complex operating systems and applications in a heterogeneous high volume environment
• Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure support environment with changing priorities, striving to deliver exceptional customer service
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
