Our client is seeking a Senior Systems Analyst to work out of Victoria. As a Senior Systems Analyst you will collaboratively work with our key client and internal stakeholders to research and elicit, analyze, validate and document business reporting requirements, and to ensure that those requirements clearly reflect true business needs, correctly represent all stakeholders. Translate business needs into system/application requirements and project components to help determine solutions to business problems. Proactively identify and manage changes to requirements and identify risks. Effectively manage customer expectations. Apply industry and information technology expertise to support proposals, feasibility studies, implementations and new business development.
This role is a senior and key role on the account which will be focused primarily on the development of reporting solutions. Reporting is a strategic capability and this position will interface with the client on sales, solutioning, requirements activities for all significant reporting solutions. The position will be the key resource in providing guidance and mentorship to other reporting BAs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead requirements gathering sessions, such as Joint Application Design (JAD), and conduct interviews and other information gathering exercises.
Ask open-ended questions and exhibit superior listening skills to gather data to reveal requirements and workflow.
Develop multidimensional report specifications from business requirements.
Develop detailed requirements specification that can be directly used by the development team to develop logical and physical models.
Manipulate dimensions and facts within Cognos reporting tool for adhoc querying.
Evaluate information from multiple sources; decompose high-level information into details;
Use various forms of business inputs (e.g., financial statements, key financial principles such as return on investment (ROI) and net present value (NPV), corporate business and strategic IT plans and architectures, market positioning, and supply chain considerations) to identify business needs and effective business solutions.
Identify ways to reduce costs and assist client operations in achieving optimal margins and improving resource utilization.
Develop requirements collateral that both reflects the needs of the business and can be directly used by the technical team with little to no rework.
Maintain traceability between business requirements and system requirements and maintain traceability between all system requirement types.
Deliverables
Use OO techniques such as UML and logical data/class models to document detailed requirements.
Use the features and functions of the Borland Together Architect product to develop visual process and data models.
Use the features and functions of the Borland CaliberRM product to document and classify requirements and to generate components of the standard requirements specification.
Develop structured user manuals and end-user training courses.
Skills and Experience
5years of Business Intelligence experience working with MOLAP databases and OLAP front end reporting tools in enterprise and departmental engagements.
3years experience in logical dimensional modeling.
A minimum of 1 year development experience using Cognos Impromptu and/or Powerplay and/or Report Net products.
Working knowledge of TSQL & PL/SQL.
Experience with tools such as Micro Strategy or Business Objects.
Knowledge of SAP BW or other Database tools would be an asset.
Experience with MS Analysis Services and/or Essbase preferred but not essential.
Experience with requirements management and modelling tools such as CaliberRM, TogetherArchitect, Rose, Visio, Erwin, etc.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, concise technical and business documents that communicate clearly to the intended audience.
Knowledge of testing methodologies and tools.
Experience in project environments and worked in mature organizational environments.
Experience working in an ITIL compliant environment and/or formal ITIL education.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.
