We're looking for a Linux guru (or aspiring Linux guru) to be involved in the most intense aspects of running our email hosting system, which is made almost entirely of open source software running on hundreds of Linux servers. Your role will be to remotely manage these servers and set up new servers via ssh. The fun things you'll get to do include installing and configuring software, troubleshooting misbehaving servers, playing with the latest beta versions of common software, solving scalability problems, and constantly thinking of new ways to make your life easier by scripting everything that you can think of to automate these processes.
If you want your paycheck:
Your responsibilities to the customers (the people who pay us the big bucks) include:
** Thinking, creating, pushing farther, developing new ways to build and support our servers
** Constantly making our system bigger and better
** Resolving escalated support issues quickly, efficiently, and courteously
** Keeping yourself educated and up to date on our industry, our products, and our services;
Your responsibilities to your co-workers (the people pounding at your door) include:
** Educating and answering questions about new products and features
** Understanding how changes you make affect their jobs and their ability to help our customers.
** Responding quickly and efficiently to any questions they have about customer tickets
Important skills and characteristics:
** Being innately savvy when it comes to technology
** Possessing a strong desire to work hard and learn new things
You're going to do just fine here if...
...you're a geek at heart, love working with highly motivated people, and can describe tinkering with technology 50+ hours a week as a "good time".
