Our client is searching for a Rational Test Automation Engineer to join its team in Chantilly, VA. In this role, you will have the ability to help build a Test Automation Group from the ground up. Our client is a large commercial company with an extensive QA group, but it is just beginning to apply test automation techniques to its efforts. They are a Rational tools shop and utilize Rational Robot as their Test Automation tool. They have a large number of web and client-server applications, as well as transaction processing applications that do not have visual user interfaces, and there is extensive use of both Java and .NET development technologies.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of an Automated Regression Test Framework and for the design, development, and maintenance of modular, extensible, and reusable test automation scripts. In particular, your responsibilities will include the following:

Architecting, designing, developing, executing, and maintaining test automation scripts in Rational Robot
Developing test automation approaches for web, client-server, and non-GUI software applications and components
Mentoring other team members on the use of Rational Robot and on automation techniques
Performing hands-on automated test script creation and regression test execution
Working with the broader QA group to determine the root causes of defects / bugs / issues
Performing bug regression, release testing, and end-to-end test scripting
Conducting requirements gathering in situations where requirements are insufficient to build automated test scripts

To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and experience:

strong Rational Robot experience, as a hands-on Automated Test Engineer
experience creating automated test scripts for web applications written in .NET
experience creating automated test scripts for web applications written in Java
experience creating complex scripts (custom scripting, not just simple record-and-playback)
SQL skills (creating SELECT statements with simple JOINS, plus the ability to read and interpret stored procedures)
experience testing software products that go through multiple release cycles
solid background in QA processes, methodologies, and processes, as well as how QA fits into the broader software development lifecycle
experience determining the root causes of bugs / issues / defects
