As a member of the Database Development team, this individual will take part in design, development and ongoing processing/maintenance of database load, update and output processes. This individual will be responsible for leading/owning complex marketing custom DB solutions, interacting with TC's (business analysts)on regular basis to ensure that all requested changes implemented and spec'd appropriatelly. This person will lead and implement most complex changes and work with IT (unix admins, DBA's) to ensure the solution infrastructure in apropriate order.
- Lead improvement, standardization, and automation of existing ETL processes.
- Identify bottlenecks/errors during data loads and transformations due to requirement changes, unexpected data volume and/or data quality changes.
- Design, develop, test, and deliver changes based on supplied requirements or identified problems.
- Implement, automate, and maintain parallel processing and UNIX piping/redirection techniques for processes running on multi-CPU servers.
- With thorough understanding of merge/purge and address correction technology, evaluate and improve matching criteria. These processes are the core technology for identifying marketable individuals and households for ChoicePoint*s clients.
- Timely execute and QC assigned database builds, updates, and extracts. Review and correctly interpret results of data hygiene and data consolidation runs for assigned processes to ensure quality. Work with a set schedule and deadlines.
- Participate in design and development of large projects, such as database redesign or new database implementation. Responsible for efficient design and error-free implementation of assigned technical portions of the project.
- Lead assigned ETL projects by preparing project plans, identifying milestones, assessing workload, and assigning tasks to others if needed. Responsible for successful completion of the project.
- Design, implementation, and execution of small ad-hoc projects based on client specifications.
- Contribute to internal tools development and third-party tool selection through user feedback.
- If necessary, assist other team members in ETL design/development, special projects, or processing.
Knowledge and Skills
Required:
- B.S. or equivalent work Experience
- 5+ years of experience with Shell scripting and Unix operating systems.
- 5+ years of experience with large Marketing data warehouses.
-ETL design and programming skills in UNIX
-Strong SQL skills.
- Expertise with ETL process development, including data hygiene, transformation, load and audit.
- Experience with RDBMS environment (this is a requirement at this level in data extraction)
-Advanced UNIX shell: parallel processing techniques, regular expressions, piping, redirection, conditionals.
-Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
-Ability to identify and solve problems, set priorities and manage workload.
- Strong understanding of general RDBMS concepts.
Preferred:
-B.S. Computer Science
-5+ years practical experience.
-Experience in a technical role within Database/Direct Marketing industry
-Prior Lead Level Experience to direct lower level developers
-Expert level in most of the required skill categories.
-Design and programming skills in Perl, PL/SQL, C, or C++
- Familiarity with internal ETL applications
