Job Title: Director of Technology
Job Summary:
The Director of Technology (DOT) is a key management position. Reporting to the President, the DOT is responsible for setting the technical direction of the company; managing the Technology Practice's P&L, staffing and resource allocation; scoping, estimating, and recommending technical direction for customer engagements; and managing internal infrastructure.
The Director of Technology works with his/her counterparts in the Consulting and Creative Services practices to run the Interactive Consulting business unit. He/she will focus on driving the technical leadership of the practice, set best practice development standards, conduct technical reviews of customer projects, and allocate technical resources across all customer engagements. He/she will also regularly attend new client sales calls, provide initial technical recommendations for customer engagements, and represent the company as a subject matter expert in an effort to scope and estimate team size/composition and project costs.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Scopes and estimates technical components of customer engagements
• Evangelizes how emerging technologies can meet customer requirements
• Manages utilization and resource allocation of Technology group
• Explains Planning & Spec Phase and Development Process to Customers
• Identifies Strategic Opportunities for sale of additional Technical Services to customers
• Identifies and qualifies new sales opportunities
• Responsible for planning and maintaining internal corporate infrastructure
• Spends approximately 25% of time on billable client work
• Manages department P&L and tracks utilization, profitability, and resource allocation to meet broader company performance metrics
• Recruits and hires all technical resources
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong technical and project management background (10+ years)
• Deep Understanding of Web Technologies and Applications (10+ years)
o Microsoft Platform - .NET, Sharepoint, SQL, Silverlight, etc.
o Open Source -- CMS, eCommerce, etc.
• Ability to “roll up the sleeves” and provide tactical technical services when necessary
• Detailed Understanding of the SDLC Project Lifecycle
• Good People Management Skills; prior management experience required
• Excellent Interpersonal and Organizational Skills
• Excellent Written/Verbal Skills
• Ability to work in collaborative, distributive, fast-paced team-based development environment
• Experience with large clients with multiple large projects
• Strong attention to detail required
Education & Experience:
• College Degree required, CS a bonus
• MBA or post-graduate work a bonus
• 10+ years experience in technology consulting
• Experience in management / leadership roles with team and P/L responsibility
