Our Client is looking for an Installation Engineer to become apart of their team. Here is a brief description below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains, extends and enhances tools, procedures and documents to ensure that software installations and upgrades are simple, reliable and supportable.
2. Develops and implements scripts and tests to ensure that installation and upgrade processes conform with industry best practices.
3. Makes recommendations of ways to improve the installation and upgrade experience for our users.
4. Makes recommendations of ways to improve the internal management of installation and upgrade tools, scripts and processes.
5. Is able to build scripts and tools that work in Windows and Linux environments with maximal code re-use. These tools may be related to installation or in support of other tools in the product
6. Is responsible for working independantly, amongst product teams and manage competing priorities.
7. Reviews quality trends, tracks the root cause of problems, and coordinates correction actions whenever issues are encountered with installations and upgrades
8. Integrates lessons learned from resolutions of quality issues back into the the product.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Will provide engineering expertise in consolidating existing upgrade processes with central upgrade system.
2. May occasionally work with integration/application engineers to integrate installation/upgrade process with 3rd party central installation repositories.
3. May assist the Support Department in evaluating customer support issues to identify new failure conditions as well as automate test cases to detect such failures in future software relases.
4. Work with documentation writers to assist in preparation of release notes and installation documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Four-year degree in Computer Science or related field with very technical grasp on fine details of computer science.
2. Effective human relations skills, including good listening ability and the capability to convince others to establish or change precedents.
3. Effective written communication skills including the ability to generate documentation and reports.
4. Familiarity with various scripting languages such as Bourne Shell, Perl, and MS Bat files
5. Familiarity with installer platforms such as “Installshield” but has also written installers that execute on the unix command line.
6. Familiarity with Windows and Unix environments
