Ranked as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, our client is seeking an experienced high performing Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to fill an exciting long term contract position. This is an opportunity to work with a team of database professionals managing all aspects of database development and database operations.
The successful candidate will contribute in two main areas:
Database development support:
• Implement new databases and support existing databases for in-house developed and COTS applications
• Perform database design and database development, including SSIS programming
• Perform data conversion
• Migrate SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005
• Document technical processes and procedures
Database operational support:
• Design and implement technical solutions for technically challenging operational functions
• Perform level 3 type operational database troubleshooting
• Support and monitor all database infrastructure, including limited hardware and operating systems support
• Perform ongoing database performance tuning, capacity planning and availability planning
• Assist in disaster recovery planning and high availability
• Document technical processes and procedures
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following areas:
• 5 years of solid relevant experience in Database Administration working as a Database Administrator
• 3 years focused in database design and development.
• 3 years focused in database operations
• University degree in computer science or a combination of education and relevant work experience
• Secret security clearance (or be qualified to able to obtain secret security clearance)
Hands on experience with following technologies:
• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005 Suite of products, including SSIS
• Microsoft Win2k3 operating system
• ERwin Data Modeler
• Idera suite of database support products
• Microsoft Operations Manager
Skills and experience in the following areas
• Strong proactive skills (out of the box thinking)

• Solid organizational and analytical skills
• Strong oral and written communications skills
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of ITIL or MOF practices
