Sr. Cognos Reporting / SQL Server Developer to support the full life cycle for Cognos 8 BI Professional initiatives. Must have excellent performance tuning, data validation, and SQL skills, with strong knowledge of data modeling (preferably Cognos semantic layer). Will be involved in the design and development of complex reports, and will analyze reporting requirements. Will provide lead role in the on-going use of Cognos for business intelligence: implementing a scheduling strategy, and training business users in the functions of the Cognos toolset. Provide development, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting to all internal departments and subsidiaries. Assist other Information Technology staff with report and/or application related work tasks.
Essential Functions:
Will be involved in the report migration from legacy environments,: creating metadata models, creating reports, defining technical requirements, coding from technical specifications, and performance testing/tuning. Prefer experience with data normalization, SQL coding and tuning, and ETL mapping, in addition to report design, development, and implementation. Familiarity with importing metadata from multiple data sources to create business subject specific models to facilitate the creation and publication of packages to Cognos Report Server.
Work with business departments to leverage new Facets system capabilities, especially in the area of reporting and business intelligence. Work with other IT staff to ensure integrations and queries meet best practices to improve productivity and system performance.
Required Skills / Experience:
Advanced expertise in SQL programming, Cognos Report generation and tool maintenance, semantic layer modeling, stored procedure programming, data replication, database performance monitoring and optimization. Knowledge of Informatica, scripting, and ETL. TriZetto Facets application experience a plus. Professional experience including experience with Microsoft T-SQL stored procedures, configuration management and source control (* la Microsoft Visual SourceSafe), database performance management, creation and management of DTS, SSIS, and ETL packages. Minimum 5 years intensive experience working as a programmer and reporting specialist.
