IT Professional Needed (Mississauga, ON, Canada)
Pause Productions is a small IT shop looking for additional IT professionals to grow our team. This challenging, full-time position requires you to work in our offices as well as the offices of our customers, resolving IT problems in an efficient and professional manner.
We have a reputation with our clients as being personable and resourceful and, thus, are looking for well-rounded individuals that can speak competently about a wide variety of operational topics with our clients. You may not know all the answers, but you are willing to do a bit of work to help our clients find them.
We are looking for individuals who talk about quad-core chips and I/O disk speeds like they are a finely tuned Ferrari but have the ability to translate that passion in layman terms. We are also looking for individuals who can creatively come up with solutions when working with budget-conscious clients.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Successful applicants will have proven experience in system administration of Linux and Windows servers and workstations, as well as repairing and upgrading hardware. You should be able to work independently and with clients on site.
System Administration
We maintain a number of Linux servers for internal use, as well as providing managed server services to select customers. Linux and Windows servers are used in both LAN file server and internet (Web Application / Mail / etc) server roles. Software commonly used includes Apache, MySQL, PHP, PostgreSQL, Qmail, Sendmail, and Postfix.
Workstation / LAN Administration
We maintain our own in-house network as well as networks and workstations for our customers at their offices. Many of these systems are Windows-based and you should have the ability to efficiently track down problems and resolve them, effectively handling any concerns the customer may have. You will interface directly with the customers on site and must be friendly and professional.
While not required, we often deal with other technologies that would be an asset in the successful candidate.
Mac / OSX
At our office and at many of our client sites you will find Macs running various flavours of OSX. Experience with administering OSX and getting them talking to their network's file servers and other Windows boxes would be an excellent skill to have.
POTS / xDSL
We often deal with various phone systems while working at customer sites. Experience with basic POTS wiring and troubleshooting the various forms of DSL would be an asset.
Experience
Candidates for this position will have several years of proven, real world experience administering Linux and Windows servers and managing office networks. We are not looking for OS fanatics of any kind, but people who can use their experience across all platforms and can find the best tool for a particular job.
Education
Formal education is not as important to this position as is practical (aka "real world") experience. If you've been administering servers and taking care of networks instead of attending classes, we still want to hear from you.
Transportation
Because this position requires on-site visits with our clients throughout the GTA, you must have a reliable vehicle that can be used year-round. Mileage will be compensated.
POSITION AND COMPENSATION
This is a full-time on-site position with a full benefits package. We offer a competitive salary based on the successful applicant's knowledge and level of experience.
