Introductory Information
Software Developers participate in the design and implementation of new products and/or features that have been identified by Product Management, prototyped by Product Planning, and assigned by Project or Development Senior Management. The Software Developer develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software or enhancements to existing software. Developers work with technical staff and customers to understand software problems and to resolve them.

Position Description
• Plan the implementation of new products and enhancements as reflected by the architectural prototype, use case and/or functional specification.
• Participate in prototype, use case and functional spec reviews, offering insight regarding feasibility.
• Develop initial sizing estimate based on requirements.
• Create general system design.
• Create technical specifications, clearly defining the programming effort required for new and changed programs, and interfaces to existing products.
• Provide estimates for the programming effort defined in the technical specifications.
• Provide input to and then meeting project schedules.
• Identify potential roadblocks and develop around them.
• Develop code that matches the prototype and specification, is maintainable, and conforms to internal standards and, as necessary, portable to other environments.
• Develop unit test specifications and execute the tests.
• Interact with Quality Assurance to understand testing results and reports.
• Perform problem determination for production releases and create source code changes to provide solution where requested.
• Complete implementation within time estimates.
• Assist Technical Writer in developing technical documentation, and review materials for technical accuracy.
• Mentor other Developers, Support or Quality Assurance in understanding product architecture, new functionality, and in identifying strategies for problem resolution.
• Occasionally contact customers to understand problems or to provide a technical explanation.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Keep current with advances in software development methodologies and tools.
• Complying with all company and department policies and procedures.

Required Skills
• Software development experience.
• A minimum of 3 years software development experience developing and implementing Internet/Intranet applications, specifically database applications using Visual Studio, ASP, SQL Server, DHTML, ADO and ADO .Net, VBScript, JavaScript, XML and AJAX.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable system software.
• Significant knowledge of and experience with programming languages and software development techniques.
• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or the equivalent.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Self-motivated/takes initiative.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to write code that is maintainable, extendible and has minimal bugs.
• Ability to understand requirements, and ask appropriate questions for clarification as necessary.
• Ability to analyze marketing requirements and external prototypes and to identify design and implementation alternatives.
• Ability to understand and adhere to the project goal without necessarily agreeing with it.
• Experience with all aspects of the software development life cycle, including requirements specifications, design, implementation and quality assurance
• Sound knowledge of software architectures
• Analysis/problem solving expertise
• Strong GUI design capabilities
• Excellent communication and people skills in order to communicate with team members and end users effectively
• Experience with Oracle, Java, J2EE and Linux an asset.
