Java Web Developer Job Posting

Rail Europe is the leading North American supplier of European rail and related travel products. REI offers the most comprehensive selection of European rail products on the market, including single- and multi-country rail passes, Rail `n Drive products, point-to-point rail tickets, high-speed and scenic trains, sleepers, reservations and other rail-related products for use throughout continental Europe and the U.K.- a total of 35 countries. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Java Web Developer to join our team in White Plains, NY.

Responsibilities

• Develop application software for Rail Europe websites and mobile apps using J2EE and other web technologies:

o Review requirements and mock-ups provided by business users; participate in discussions to clarify needs and propose solutions.
o Collaborate on technical design of solutions to be implemented and create supporting documentation.
o Develop unit test application software.
o Analyze and resolve application defects during testing campaigns.
o Participate in post-production support, and correction of maintenance/production issues raised by users.

• Review the work of the team members; provide constructive feedback; participate in regular team code reviews.
• Work with team management to estimate workload for bug fixes, small enhancements, and projects.
• Assist in monitoring production systems: log review, analysis, and documentation of production outages and disruptions.
• Provide regular updates to team management on status of activities, including work progress on assigned activities.

Required/Preferred Credentials

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or other similar fields.
• 3 to 5 years of experience with web application development:

o 3+ years of experience implementing application using the following technologies: Java, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, Spring, JavaScript, HTML, and DHTML.
o 2+ years' experience using/implementing Web 2.0 Technologies: AJAX, etc. Knowledge of HTML5 and experience developing for mobile solutions is preferred.
o 1+ years' experience implementing applications based on webservices using SOAP technology preferred.
o 1+ years' experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) practices, concepts and methodology preferred.

• 1+ years' experience using relational databases such as MySQL, and Oracle.
• Strong knowledge of object oriented analysis and design (OOA&D) and software development industry best practices.
• Experience using Eclipse or similar IDEs.
• Experience using Subversion, or similar configuration and version management tools.
• Strong communication skills. Ability to take ownership of task delivery from conception to delivery.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills.
