JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
* Responsible for developing and enforcing all database standards, guidelines, and operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
* Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and implementation of an Enterprise-wide consistent blueprint for all related database development and management.
* Responsible for Data Quality Management, Data Security Management, Database Management, Data Governance and overall Data Architecture, Analysis, and Design.
* Responsible for working with the development team on development and configuration issues related to all SQL databases.
* The Data Architect shall design and implement highly available production systems.
* Responsible for maintaining database changes from Development, to QA, to Production.
* Utilize skills in monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting in support of SQL and all database-related activities.
* Assist the Application Developers in developing efficient SQL code to access and manipulate database objects as projected in functional requirements.
* Responsible for creating all stored procedures, functions, and employ automation where appropriate in support of business intelligence, reporting, and programming.
* Responsible for reviewing and approving all application access to the database structures.
* The Data Architect will work directly with Test and Production Services on developing, maintaining, and executing all security, backup, and recovery strategies, and when required, all purge/archive/migration activities.
* Responsible for creating and maintaining all instances and databases with appropriate initialization parameters and database structures (i.e. data files, rollback segments, tablespaces, etc.) based on specifications.
* Responsible for the development, review, and implementation of all database security guidelines/mechanisms
* Responsible for ensuring appropriate users/authority is in place (with Production Services) for all issues related to any and all database access.
* Responsible for the installation, configuration and upgrading of database server software and related products (to be coordinated with Production Services).
* Responsible for evaluating and recommending database features and database related products.
* Responsible for the evaluation, planning, and execution of all database capacity planning activities and strategies (to be coordinated with Production Services).
* Responsible for providing a sound strategy, policies, procedures, and best practices around the practice of ETL (Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading) of large volumes of data from multiple existing disparate production systems. These sources of data are often of different formats than the standardized definitions, thus the Data Architect will be responsible for the "cleansing" before loading.
* The Data Architect will work directly with Production Services to establish processes, procedures, and best-practices for all database-related activities required for Disaster Recovery.
* Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining unit tests of database programs (i.e., SQL server 2012).
* The Data Architect will share knowledge by effectively documenting work.
* The Data Architect shall respond quickly and effectively to production & development issues and taking responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.
* The Data Architect shall resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues as-necessary.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in technical discipline; or equivalent industry professional experience (essential)
* Experience writing complex SQL, triggers, and procedures.
* 7+ years' experience in application development.
* Hands on and ownership personality.
* Demonstrated ability to understand relational data models.
* Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.
* Experience configuring database network connectivity.
* Experience in fast paced production or operational system arena.
* Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Responsible for maintaining database changes from Development, QA to Production.
* The Data Architect should possess the technical ability to understand the factors governing hardware performance, with considerable knowledge both of the operating system software and the DBMS being used (e.g. MS SQL Server).
* The Data Architect must possess advanced knowledge and experience working with SQL and relational databases, writing stored procedures, reviewing all physical structures, performance, maintenance, and utilities associated with each structure and objects (e.g. tables, indexes, and views).
* Design and develop new, high performance applications using C#/ Visual Studio 2010/2012.
* Write SQL queries to report analyze large volumes of data for quality, trends and opportunities.
* Build optimized routines to extract, transform and load (ETL) gigabytes of data to/from various data sources.
* Author/update SQL queries joining 10 or more tables
* Peer review the code, design and architecture of existing and future large-scale solutions.
* Efficiently build maintainable tools that increase productivity and quality.
* Keep up to date with the latest tools, techniques and best practices and help introduce new ideas to the team.
* Generate technical artifacts describing solution architecture, data flow, process flow, and software design.
* Consult with Business Analysts, Developers, Project Managers, and Subject Matter Experts to understand and resolve issues as well as design and implement new solutions.
