Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) is searching for a qualified and highly motivated candidate to provide technical support on accessibility of web-based resources. The candidate will support the efforts of academic, business, and administrative units at Penn State and the Accessible Technology and Information Committee to ensure the accessibility of websites and web-based applications; online course content and instructional media; and PDF, presentation
and word processor documents. Responsible for supporting and
recommending appropriate HTML markup, CSS, JavaScript, and other technical measures to repair barriers to users with disabilities. Research state-of-the-art techniques for creating standards-based web resources based on WCAG 2.0, HTML4 and HTML5 standards, and University policies. Create and present training for staff in testing and remediation techniques. May also work on issues of instructional
materials, and audio and video captioning. This position will report to the manager of the WebLion software development group within TLT. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or equivalent plus two years of work related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This position requires a deep understanding of web standards, web technologies, media presentation, and production of accessible documents. Experience with assistive and adaptive technologies is a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of re-funding.
