The Nerdery is looking for a talented PHP developer skilled in all aspects of web development. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, always learning and willing to expand their horizons. Most importantly, they embrace The Nerdery's unique culture by sharing their knowledge and experience with our 200+ developer team through collaboration, group work and peer review. Conversely, they would be humbly ready to eagerly absorb The Nerdery goodness from the collective brain power of our amazing team.
Requirements
Proficient in PHP 5 and object-oriented patterns
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML, CSV
Basic knowledge of GNU/Linux and Apache web server
Familiar with databases and SQL syntax, such as MySQL
Familiar with Zend Framework or similar MVC frameworks
Familiar with JavaScript and AJAX
Familiar with character encoding and how this applies to storing, retrieving, and displaying data
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or 4 years web development experience
Every Nerd Should Know
General understanding of project management principles. (Agile, Iterative, Waterfall)
Familiar with version control.
Familiar with QA and deployment processes
Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
Bonus
Experience creating plugins for CMS's like WordPress/ExpressionEngine
Experience with Magento, Drupal, or other popular open source products
Experience in common third-party APIs such as Facebook, PayPal, and Authorize.net
Experience in security risks and solutions in web application development
Experience in developing web services (REST, RPC, JSON, XML, SOAP, etc)
Experience with jQuery
Experience with Unit Testing or Continuous Integration
Familiar with Subversion, Git, and/or Mercurial
Knowledge of optimization such as memcached and scaling MySQL/PHP
Code Challenge
Applicants who progress beyond the first interview will be given a code challenge tailored to their discipline. Applicants typically average between 8-10 hours on the challenge and may receive feedback on their code from a Nerdery senior developer.
