Job Description
The Web Architect's role is to construct and implement the technical design for the IT presence on the intranet and Internet. This includes the selection and support of Web application framework, which will support development of site navigation, and designing an application framework.
Essential Functions:
· Identify, recommend, and prioritize new Web features and applications in conjunction with group management
· Create and develop transaction-based e-commerce solutions for business-to-business and business-to-consumer applications.
· Collaborate with Web developers in the development and integration of graphical and multimedia components into Web sites and other Web applications.
· Perform cost-benefit analyses of proposed Web implementations, enhancements, and modifications for IT projects
· Create and maintain a consistent Web site architectural structure across the Web applications for IT
· Ensure a consistent look and feel across the Web sites, applications, intranets, and extranets by developing and promoting a uniform Web branding strategy
· Conduct research into current and emerging Web technologies and issues in support of Web development efforts.
· Set and enforce compatibility and interoperability standards that ensure site accessibility for all users.
· Track and evaluate new standards, technologies and trends in Web architecture, development, design, and delivery.
· Monitor and report on Web site traffic and performance.
Skills/Knowledge:
• Excellent written, oral, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly self motivated and directed.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Vast experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements in order to meet strategic goals and development efforts.
• Excellent knowledge of Web platforms, technologies, protocols, and publishing tools e.g. XML, XSLT, Java/Microsoft web development tools, web services, html
• Advanced understanding of object-oriented programming languages.
• Hands-on experience with Web-database integration and a range of relational database platforms.
• Working knowledge of Web servers and application servers(load balancing, high availability)
• Knowledge of Web authoring and development tools.
• Experience with e-commerce, intranet, and extranet development.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Education/Experience:
· Four-year degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
· Minimum of five years previous experience in web design and architecture
