Description:

NetBackup Operations Engineer

Development Tool(s) and Platform(s)
• NetBackup 6.X

• Experience with HPUX, Windows, Oracle, SAP, SQL, and Share Point a plus

Technical
• The Primary responsibilities of the NetBackup Operations Engineer will be to assist Client in preparing the NetBackup servers for an upgrade and performing the upgrade of the core NetBackup environment from NetBackup 6.5.x to 7.5. The NetBackup Operations Engineer will assume a key role in providing ongoing expertise for Client's strategic NBU related initiatives.
• 5+ years of experience with NetBackup installations, patching, upgrades & operational support
• Utilize the NetBackup Catalog Consistency Checker (NBCC's) on all master server domains
• Perform upgrades of the NetBackup infrastructure from previous versions to version 7.x
• Assist in problem troubleshooting, escalation, vendor support cases and root-cause analysis of NBU solutions currently installed within the Client infrastructure.
• Perform daily monitoring and management of the NBU solution implemented within Client's Enterprise Data Center infrastructure.
• Able to configure NetBackup Vault for daily tape management.
• Deploy scheduled NBU product updates and patches as they're released by Client backup engineering.
• Familiar with deploying the vSphere API for NBU or use of VCBs.
• Create and file project artifacts such as IQ/OQs and executed ICLs
• Support of the global backup environments in the data centers
• 2nd line support for Global backup management.
• Identify optimization opportunities through consolidation or simplification and executes those plans if there are substantial strategic / cost justifications
• Map the needs of the Business Customers to the existing technology.
• Good knowledge of Backup concepts and backup technology, specifically NetBackup, including via LAN , via SAN and advanced backup technologies
• Able to integrate his/her technical knowledge and skills in an environment that is highly regulated and subject to different ITIL based processes ( Change Management, Incident Management, Asset Management, ... )
• Technical writing skills to write the proper documentation according to internal regulations (FDA part 11, GxP, …)

Non-Technical Skills
• Some flexibility in working hours is required (over-time or weekend/holiday work)
• On-call permanency is required.
• Strong tracking, coordination and project planning skills
• Ability to identify and implement process and/or application improvements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must be able to work on multiple simultaneous tasks with limited supervision
• Quick learner, motivated self-starter
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication and team collaboration skills
• Able to follow change management procedures and internal guidelines

Methodology/Certification
• NetBackup Certified Data Protection Engineer a plus
