Enterprise Architect
REQ ID: 6394

This team member is a senior technical leader in the organization, equivalent in leadership expectations to a Sr. Manager or Strategic Relationship Manager (SRM). This role mainly focused on the development of technology principles, standards and patterns that are highly reusable across multiple enterprise solutions. The Enterprise Architect leads senior management in organization-wide operations that will create substantial added value for the Enterprise. The role acts as the bridge between the technical Solution Architects and the SRM to ensure that the technology infrastructure meets the goals of extensibility and complexity reduction for the entire enterprise. This team member should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to influence IT at the highest management levels. This position will report to the Senior Manager or Director of Solution Architecture.

Responsibilities:
1. Define key solution portfolios and ensure they are managed -- either by heading that activity directly or by establishing and then supporting portfolio management disciplines (for such solution portfolios as application, service-oriented architecture [SOA] service or shared infrastructure).
2. Define road maps describing the evolution of all enterprise solution portfolios from current state to future state.
3. Define models, including solution patterns, to guide solution decisions for the entire enterprise.
4. Ensure that project management or solution delivery life cycle efforts (and Solution Architects specifically) leverage all aspects of enterprise architecture (EA) -- separately by EA viewpoint (for example, business, information and technology) and via guidance at the solution architecture level across those viewpoints.
5. Analyze enterprise business context (trends and business strategy), as well as change requirements in other EA viewpoints, to derive the solution architecture change requirements to guide solution decisions for the enterprise.
6. Assist with governance activities associated with ensuring solution architecture and, thus, EA compliance.
7. Understand and advocate the principles of business and IT strategies, as well as of EA development and service delivery. Be prepared to "sell" the EA process (overall), its outcome and ongoing results, and to lead the communication, marketing or educational activities needed to ensure success and use. This position is considered to be the equivalent (as well as Director, at times) in leadership expectations as a Sr. Manager or SRM.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
2. Minimum of seven years of hands-on design and implementation experience in IT, with knowledge in a minimum of two of the following technical disciplines:
a. Application development
b. Network design
c. Middleware
d. Servers and storage
e. Database management
f. Operations
3. Minimum 3 years project solution architecture, strategy and/or IT planning experience
4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with diverse corporate IT operations, major IT programs, systems integration and technical architecture at Enterprise and inter-enterprise levels
5. Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership (including Vice Presidents and CIO) and be respected as a leader in advancing strategies across all of IT.
6. Experience in developing and implementing IT architecture plans, Enterprise Information Architecture standard and guidelines, software development methodologies and strategic plans.
7. Track record for remaining unbiased toward any specific technology or vendor and for being more interested in results than personal preferences.
8. Track record for thinking about more than technology issues, and for integrating the technical with the business and information aspects for complete solutions.
9. Strong leadership skills to indirectly manage across functional teams toward common solutions.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain and document the Enterprise Information Architecture to diverse audiences (technical, business, etc).
11. Highly self-directed and able to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent and competing challenges, issues, ambiguities, and contradictions.
12. Demonstrated team player with results oriented track record.

Additional Qualifications Preferred:
1. Graduate degree such as MBA/MA/MS in Information Technology, Engineering, Business or other related field.
2. Capability for being thoughtful, extroverted and collaborative
3. Motivation that is focused on long-term results
4. Willingness and ability to play multiple roles and adapt quickly in complex technology environments.
