These teachers will work in Primary and Junior Secondary schools. The qualification offered by the College is the National Certificate of Education (or NCE), which has become the minimum standard for primary school teachers in Nigeria and the part time NCE course in particular is upgrading the skills of practising, unqualified teachers in order to improve national standards of education.
The stated aim/vision of the National Commission of Colleges of Education is that: “The Nigeria of our collective dream is one that is free and democratic, just and egalitarian, united, strong and self-reliant with a great and dynamic economy and above all, a land full of bright opportunities for all the citizens. These national goals also underlie the philosophical ideals of Nigerian education, of which the NCE program is one concrete manifestation.”
